My 8 times great-grandfather served in the Continental Army with Henry "Lighthorse" Lee II (father of Robert E. Lee). He was married to Henry's sister.
My great-grandfather served with Terry's Texas Rangers (The 8th Texas Cavalry, C. S. A.) under the command of Albert Sydney Johnston. He suffered a gunshot wound through both thighs in an attack on a stockade near McMinnville, TN on August 29, 1862. He returned to Texas to recover and obtain another horse. He returned to active duty in December 1862 and served with distinction for the remainder of the war.
My father ran landing craft at Iwo Jima and Okinawa during World War II.
My DH is a Vietnam Era Air Force veteran.
