Russian court jails 2 men for eating teenage girl

The Associated Press
Wednesday, May 5, 2010; 10:42 AM

ST. PETERSBURG -- A Russian court has convicted two men of murdering and eating a 16-year-old schoolgirl in January.

The St. Petersburg City Court says it sentenced a 21-year-old Goth-rock musician to 19 years in a maximum-security prison. (huh? 19 years?)

It says his 20-year-old accomplice was sentenced to 18 years in a maximum-security prison (only 18 years?!)

The court says in a statement released Wednesday that the musician lured his victim to his apartment building, where he and his friend drowned her in a bathtub and cooked parts of her body in an oven.

The men pleaded not guilty, and in earlier testimony they said they had killed the woman because they "were hungry."

This has happened before in Russia (& probably elsewhere). Glen Beck had a show in witch this was discussed. Sort of went something like: desire for decrease population-->food shortage in Russia (but enough food to ship elsewhere for $)--> death from poor nutrition(/starvation). At least one example was given of canabalism :(

shy, thanks for replying. this is the first i'd heard of russia's hungry having to eat ppl. when they said they did it because they were hungry....they're goth...i thought they meant in some demented way...hungry for blood vampire kinda sick crap. that the two of them choose to do it. omg. i think the 'iron maiden' feels sick.

holy smokes. this is scary shit. this could very well be the future for all of us.

here all this time, i thought a few extra lbs would be my famine reserves. never thought for a second how 'juicy' a plump bird is, even if it is human.

in all seriousness...i think i've finally found that motivation to loose some weight. starting today.

Mexico: 3 beheaded bodies found outside Acapulco

The Associated Press
Saturday, May 8, 2010; 2:22 PM

ACAPULCO, Mexico -- Mexican police are investigating the murders of three men whose bodies were found tortured and headless near the beachside resorts of Acapulco.

A Saturday statement from police in Guerrero state says the victims were in their 20s and 30s. Neither their identities nor a motive has been determined.

They were found on a peninsula a few miles south of the city.

The U.S. State Department warned this week that parts of southern Guerrero state could be dangerous for travelers due to drug violence.

More than 22,700 people have been killed since President Felipe Calderon launched an offensive against cartels in December 2006.

I have so been dreading this type of news. Do any of you remember a while ago - a year? two years? - we were told to watch for more and more kidnappings, and barbaric violence especially to children? Not only are there kidnappings in the news every day, and beheaded victims becoming commonplace in Mexico, but these attacks on children are the worst - beyond t he pale. God, I hope it doesn't get any worse (parts of kids sent home to show they were in danger of being murdered if ransom wasn't paid, for example...)

i know how you're feeling, L. my heart does this little twist each time i read one of these. :(

the regime set this up...with their long standing rule of one child allowance. now when someone looses it and wants to strike back at society at it's softest spot....it's the children. after all, you're only allowed one.

my thoughts are with the parents as well.

From the link above:

The latest deaths were sure to fuel speculation about why assailants — usually lone males — are targeting schools.

Sociologists say the recent attacks that have killed 17 and wounded more than five dozen reflect the tragic consequences of ignoring mental illness and rising stress resulting from huge social inequalities in China's fast-changing society.

"The perpetrators have contracted a 'social psychological infectious disease' that shows itself in a desire to take revenge on society," said Zhou Xiaozheng of Beijing's Renmin University.

"They pick children as targets because they are the weakest and most vulnerable," Zhou said.

The recent attacks are classic "copycat crimes," the effects of which may be amplified by media coverage, Zhou said.

So yes, freak, the poor misguided soul was probably mentally unbalanced. According to the article, he owned the building the kindergarten was in and had argued with the manager of the day care the day before.

After the attack, he committed suicide. :candle

I don't see how it would be different had he murdered his own child. Disturbed is disturbed no matter how the disturbance plays out, IMHO.

This should be a WARNING to all of us here in North America.

I think the lid is just about to blow with people that are fed up with being ripped off by the rich and we should expect the same type of stupidity here soon.

I truly believe that we should follow China's path and execute any individual who intends to and or does inflict harm to a child PERIOD.

No Rehabiltaion, No Jail Time just DEATH PERIOD if you harm a child!!!!!

Post Re: SHOOTINGS - UNUSUAL VIOLENCE
Just to put a tin spin on these mutilations and murders of children - mind control? HAARP? pre-programmed mind slaves? Why? to create fear. What do we fear the most? Harm to our children. The one most powerful way to control is through fear; fear paralyzes, bends the mind, prevents logical thought.

Funny how all of a sudden we have this rash of attacks on schools in China. We have seen, over the last few years, groups of events, like bridge and tunnel failures, train derailings, attacks on children, money issues. Transportation, money, children. one after the other, then all at once. Now we are back on the cycle, but the severity raised by tenfold. Yes, L, I fear we must watch for this type of attack on children here too. So far our attacks on "children" have been on older ones: high school, college... Also, watch for more and more kidnappings, with unreasonable violence, mutilation of the victims, just horror on horror, and the gangs should start really taking over as summer goes on..... I hope like hell I'm wrong......

Post Re: SHOOTINGS - UNUSUAL VIOLENCE
I don't want to appear unsympathetic to the children and their parents - frankly anyone who harmed mine would pay and pay dearly. My point being think back to the pre-Moses Lake, WA days in the US. This was one of the first school shootings in the US, then Scotland, then Alaska, then Yemen, then Pearl, MS then West Paducah, KY, then Arkansas twice, then PA, then TN, then OR, THEN Columbine.

The difference? Most of the above acts of violence were initiated by children not by adults.

It really wasn't until after Columbine that we in the US began to even address the issue of bullying and school violence. China will start addressing these issues now as well.

Our society all over the world is showing enormous cracks in its social fabric. We place too much emphasis on folks to succeed and, IMHO, not enough emphasis on community.

Some would say it is because we took God out of the classroom. Don't know if I agree with that or not - but we certainly have removed moral teachings from the classroom.

We also have failed miserably when it comes to teaching folks how to deal with stress in a nonviolent way.

Ghandi would be appalled!

China: School killer in property dispute
By the CNN Wire Staff
May 13, 2010 1:27 a.m. EDT

Linchang Village, China (CNN) -- The man who hacked seven kindergarten students and two women to death in northwestern China owned the building where the attack occurred and was in a property dispute with the school, police said, according to state-run media.

Police identified the attacker as Wu Huanming, 48, and said he'd insisted in April that the house he was renting to the school be vacated after the lease expired, the official Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.

It's unclear whether the lease had expired, Xinhua said.

The attacker used a kitchen cleaver to kill the school's owner, Wu Hongying, and five boys and two girls on Wednesday morning before returning home and committing suicide, state media said.

The school owner's mother, who was wounded in the attack, later died at a hospital, Xinhua said.

Eleven other children from the attack remain hospitalized, including two with severe injuries, according to Xinhua. :heart

The attack occurred in Linchang Village, in Nanzheng County's Shengshui Township. Police had cordoned off the village Wednesday,as they conducted their investigation, with locals allowed in but reporters kept out.

Twenty children attended the private school, officials said.

It was the sixth such attack in China on schoolchildren since March.

China's ministries of public security and education held an emergency nationwide teleconference to tell local departments to increase security after Wednesday's attack, Xinhua reported.

On April 30, a man armed with a hammer injured five preschool children in east China before setting himself on fire in a classroom suicide, a government spokesman told Xinhua news agency.

The attacker held two children in his arms as he poured gasoline over himself, the spokesman said. Teachers in Weifang City, Shandong province, pulled the children away, as the man died, the spokesman said.

On April 29, at least 28 children were injured when a man with a knife attacked a kindergarten in east China, state media said. Most of the victims were four-year-olds, and three of the children were in critical condition.

Police arrested a 47-year-old suspect. The incident happened in Taixing city in Jiangsu province.

On April 28, a man attacked 18 students and a teacher with a knife at a primary school in southern China's Guangdong province, Xinhua said.

The attacks come despite the execution of Zheng Minsheng, 42, a former community doctor who stabbed eight children to death and wounded five others at an elementary school in eastern China on March 23.

Zheng, executed by a firing squad in Nanping City late last month, told investigators he carried out the attack because he was frustrated by "failures in his romantic life and in society," according to Xinhua.

China Daily newspaper quoted Nanjing University sociology professor Zhu Li as saying Zheng's attack inspired copycats.

"Some people may not have thought about stabbing school children, but due to the media's coverage of such a case, they got an idea," Zhu said.

Chinese authorities have begun teaching safety awareness in school curriculums, China Daily reported.

Officials also have tightened security in schools by hiring extra guards to escort students to and from class

Gunman's rampage at Hialeah restaurant leaves 5 dead
Four women were killed and three more were wounded after a gunman turned a Hialeah restaurant into a shooting gallery, police said. Police said the suspect killed himself.

BY DIANA MOSKOVITZ
dmoskovitz@miamiherald.com

An apparent domestic argument boiled over into a murderous rampage late Sunday night when a man walked into the parking lot of a Hialeah restaurant, pulled out a gun, and shot a woman.

Before he was done, four women were dead and three more were wounded -- and then he drove a few blocks away and committed suicide, police said.

Investigators suspect teen stabbed child to death

ST. FRANCISVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A Louisiana subdivision is reeling after the brutal murder of an 8-year-old boy Thursday afternoon. A teenage boy was taken into custody in connection with the crime.

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff Austin Daniel said a 16-year-old walked up to a carpenter in the Bluffs subdivision and told him to call 911 because he had stabbed a child.

The subdivision is located northeast of St. Francisville. Daniel said the crime was particularly disturbing.

"I was shocked at what I saw down there," he said. "It was just a terrible scene."

Ken Roark, who lives about 100 yards from the scene, had just returned to his home on a quiet cul-de-sac that accesses The Bluffs bike and walking trail.

"You wonder what brought something like this on," said Roark. "From what I understand, the kid was a good student and didn't even know the kid that he had killed and then he goes and confesses and turns himself in."

Neighbors at the scene said the 16-year-old lived in the nearby subdivision.

Daniel added if the district attorney's office decides to try the suspect as an adult, then his name will be released to the public.

Authorities said the victim was biking with his mother.

They reportedly drove over from their home in Clinton.

Witnesses told News 2 the boy was riding bikes with his mother along a trail in The Bluffs subdivision. The boy got separated from his mother, and that's when authorities say a 16-year-old boy stabbed the child multiple times in the front and back. Sheriff Austin Daniel said the 8-year-old's throat was also
slit.

Armed Guards Posted At Buffalo City Pools

BUFFALO, N.Y. (CBS/AP) ―

Armed security guards have been posted at public pools in Buffalo after a lifeguard was pulled into the water by rowdy teenagers and other unruly behavior prompted safety concerns for parks employees.

The city's eight public outdoor pools were shut down last Thursday after fights broke out and a locker room was vandalized.

At one pool, a 16-year-old lifeguard says she was yanked by her ankles into the water when she tried to restore order. She says she struck her head on a drain and then was repeatedly dunked by several teenagers until another lifeguard rescued her.

The teen was treated at a Buffalo hospital for a mild concussion.

City parks officials say security guards were on duty over the weekend and will be working at the pools for the rest of the summer.

Buffalo is about 356 miles northwest of the Big Apple.

France fears widespread rioting as Muslim youths rampage after police shoot robber

By Mail On Sunday Reporter

France was on riot alert yesterday after hundreds of Muslim youths went on the rampage in Grenoble.

Shots were fired at police and dozens of shops and cars were set on fire in the Alpine town.

Trams and buses were also held up by gangs brandishing baseball bats and bars, and a service station was looted.

(......good visual pictures of riot are posted at website)
The violence followed the fatal shooting of Karim Boudouda, a 27-year-old man involved in an attempted robbery at the Uriage-les-Bains casino, near Grenoble.

Locals accused armed officers of overreacting by gunning down Boudouda, allegedly as he tried to give himself up.

A Grenoble police spokesman said: ‘There has been a very fierce reaction. As mourners gathered in a park to hear Muslim prayers for the dead man late on Friday night, trouble broke out. By Saturday morning tear gas was being used on the youths.

'At about 2.30am a handgun was used to fire shots at the police. A youth was arrested, which seemed to make matters worse. The trouble went on until morning.’

Many fear the trouble will spread to other towns, as it did in 2005 when the death of two youths in Paris led to rioting and a state of emergency being declared across France.
