Great catch, Recall!
7.0 earthquake hits HaitiJanuary 12, 2010 5:30 p.m. EST A major earthquake struck just off the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, sparking a tsunami watch for parts of the Caribbean, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
There was no immediate report of damage or injuries from the quake. However, The Associated Press reported that a hospital had collapsed.
The quake had a reported magnitude of 7.0 and was centered about 10 miles (16km) off the coast and about 6 miles (10 km) underground, according to the USGS.
A tsunami watch was posted for Haiti and parts of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, but historical data suggests a destructive, widespread tsunami was not a threat, the USGS reported.

Major catastrophe as earthquake smashes Haiti
Posted 56 minutes ago Updated 23 minutes ago
Damage reported: A map showing the earthquake location in Haiti (ABC News)
Haiti's ambassador to the US says a "catastrophe of major proportions" is unfolding in his country this morning after a major 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit near the capital Port-au-Prince.
The epicentre of the quake, which was initially reported off the coast, was located inland, 10km west of Carrefour, close to the capital, and was only 30km deep.
An AFP correspondent said the ground shook for more than a minute.
An AFP correspondent in Petionville said one three-storey building was toppled, and a tractor was already at the scene trying to dig out victims as people fled onto the streets in panic. The up-scale area is home to many foreign diplomats and members of a major United Nations mission to the country.
"Just experienced a MAJOR earthquake here in Port au Prince - walls were falling down. - we are ALL fine - pray for those in the slums," Twitter user Troy Livesay wrote this morning.
Other reports say at least one hospital has collapsed.
The quake was followed by at least two weaker aftershocks.
A major earthquake of magnitude 7 or higher is capable of causing widespread and heavy damage. There was no immediate report of damage or casualties.
A tsunami watch is in effect for Haiti, Cuba, The Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
"A destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said.
"However, there is the possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts located usually no more than a 100 kilometres from the earthquake epicentre."
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere.

That's a real disaster, yesterday they had nothing, now they have injuries and no place to sleep. With all this energy release in this area of the globe, expect another energy release, possibly a frozen Methane eruption from UVG 18, at 26 Deg 34 minutes N, and 76 Deg, 47 Min W, ( That's the Bermuda Triangle). Disappearing ships, and Aircraft losses for the next 72 hours are a high probability. Mizar

Re: Haiti 7.x
I'm watching this on CNN from home right now. Most of the UN mission is missing and the UN commander is dead.
Thousands are dead and most of Port Au Prince is flattened. This is just too terrible for words.

Re: Haiti 7.x
This Counrty was already in shambles so this is a double whammy for these poor people
I've been watching CNN's coverage of the EQ disaster. Apparently, a couple of hours ago now, the UN ordered its doctors to leave the hospital tent where they had been caring for critically ill patients all day. Some had just been operated on. The only doctor left is Sanjay Gupta. The doctors told him where the supplies were, and he is there trying to care for 25 patients by himself. This is the story as is being told on CNN. Also, bodies are being dumped by truck loads in pits without any count or pictures taken of the victims (as was done in the tsunami). They aren't even completely covered; you see hands, legs, sticking out of the dirt, along with whatever the victims had been wrapped in or carried in. There was a refgrigerator, which was used to carry a dead body.
If I find anything else out, or a link, I'll post it.

U.N. orders Haiti hospital closed by thebluecrayon ri Jan 15, 2010 at 09:37:02 PM PST
This afternoon in Haiti, there appeared to be a small spot of good news when a portable hospital was erected, foreign doctors had been sent in and surgeries were finally taking place. CNN's Sanjay Gupta, who was one of the first reporters in Haiti was on scene at the hospital. Late this afternoon, word came that the hospital's doctors had been ordered to evacuate without the patients. The critically ill patients were to be abandoned in the hospital tent.
Quote:
By airtime of AC360 with Anderson Cooper, all of the doctors and most of their supplies had been evacuated. Left behind in a hospital tent, were the patients, some of whom, had just undergone surgery and were in crucial recovery hours. By the end of AC360's broadcast, Sanjay Gupta was the only doctor left with 25 critical patients in the hospital tent. Mr. Gupta had chosen to stay behind. There was some confusion as to who exactly gave the order. At the very end of the broadcast, the definitive reply came. It was the U.N..

Why? What is the UN afraid of? Dr Sanjay Gupta is a very brave man, and a true humanitarian.

FWIW - HAARP activity on Jan. 11th (EQ was on the 12th.) I don't know if this is sufficient to show HAARP doing anything, or if the activity is strong enough to have activated a stress reaction on the fault line.
Here is another method of tracking the activity of HAARP:

Re: Haiti 7.x
I don't understand them either, Ruts however I would feel alot better if there had been no use of Haarp. It keeps on showing up just before an earthquake, how many before we can really say this is what is happening. How much proof do they need before they admit they are actually causing these??

Somebody asked, why is it always the poorest people who suffer? The tsunami, Katrina, now Haiti, others as well - all I can think of is "useless eaters".

Security concerns cause doctors to leave hospital, quake victims January 16, 2010 6:33 p.m. EST
Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- Earthquake victims, writhing in pain and grasping at life, watched doctors and nurses walk away from a field hospital Friday night after a Belgian medical team evacuated the area, saying it was concerned about security.
The decision left CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Sanjay Gupta as the only doctor at the hospital to get the patients through the night.
CNN initially reported, based on conversations with some of the doctors, that the United Nations ordered the Belgian First Aid and Support Team to evacuate. However, Belgian Chief Coordinator Geert Gijs, a doctor who was at the hospital with 60 Belgian medical personnel, said it was his decision to pull the team out for the night. Gijs said he requested U.N. security personnel to staff the hospital overnight, but was told that peacekeepers would only be able to evacuate the team.
He said it was a "tough decision" but that he accepted the U.N. offer to evacuate after a Canadian medical team, also at the hospital with Canadian security officers, left the site Friday afternoon. The Belgian team returned Saturday morning.
Gijs said the United Nations has agreed to provide security for Saturday night. The team has requested the Belgian government to send its own troops for the field hospital, which Gijs expects to arrive late Sunday.
Responding to the CNN report that Gupta was the only doctor left at the Port-au-Prince field hospital, U.N. spokesman Martin Nesirky said Saturday that the world body's mission in Haiti did not order any medical team to leave. If the team left, it was at the request of their own organization, he said.
Edmond Mulet, the U.N. assistant secretary general for peacekeeping operations, told reporters later that local security officers deemed the makeshift hospital unsafe.
"It seems that we've heard some reports in the international media that the United Nations asked or forced some medical teams to not work any more in some clinic -- that is not true, that is completely untrue," Mulet said Saturday.
CNN video from the scene Friday night shows the Belgian team packing up its supplies and leaving with an escort of blue-helmeted U.N. peacekeepers in marked trucks.
Gupta -- assisted by other CNN staffers, security personnel and at least one Haitian nurse who refused to leave -- assessed the needs of the 25 patients, but there was little they could do without supplies.
More people, some in critical condition, were trickling in late Friday.
"I've never been in a situation like this. This is quite ridiculous," Gupta said.
With a dearth of medical facilities in Haiti's capital, ambulances had nowhere else to take patients, some of whom had suffered severe trauma -- amputations and head injuries -- under the rubble. Others had suffered a great deal of blood loss, but there were no blood supplies left at the clinic.
Gupta feared that some would not survive the night.
He and the others stayed with the injured all night, after the medical team had left and after the generators gave out and the tents turned pitch black.
Gupta monitored patients' vital signs, administered painkillers and continued intravenous drips. He stabilized three new patients in critical condition.
At 3:45 a.m., he posted a message on Twitter: "pulling all nighter at haiti field hosp. lots of work, but all patients stable. turned my crew into a crack med team tonight."
He said the Belgian doctors did not want to leave their patients behind but were ordered out by the United Nations, which sent buses to transport them.
"There is concern about riots not far from here -- and this is part of the problem," Gupta said.
There have been scattered reports of violence throughout the capital.
"What is striking to me as a physician is that patients who just had surgery, patients who are critically ill, are essentially being left here, nobody to care for them," Gupta said.
Sandra Pierre, a Haitian who has been helping at the makeshift hospital, said the medical staff took most of the supplies with them.
"All the doctors, all the nurses are gone," she said. "They are expected to be back tomorrow. They had no plan on leaving tonight. It was an order that came suddenly."
She told Gupta, "It's just you."
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake flattened Haiti's capital city Tuesday afternoon, affecting as many as 3 million people as it fanned out across the island nation. Tens of thousands of people are feared dead.
Haiti, the poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, lacked adequate medical resources even before the disaster and has been struggling this week to tend to huge numbers of injured. The clinic, set up under several tents, was a godsend to the few who were lucky to have been brought there.
Retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who led relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said the evacuation of the clinic's medical staff was unforgivable.
"Search and rescue must trump security," Honoré said. "I've never seen anything like this before in my life. They need to man up and get back in there."
Honoré drew parallels between the tragedy in New Orleans, Louisiana, and in Port-au-Prince. But even in the chaos of Katrina, he said, he had never seen medical staff walk away.
"I find this astonishing these doctors left," he said. "People are scared of the poor."
