Post Around the tropics with Danielle, Earl and ... Fiona?
HURRICANE DANIELLE

Danielle has become the season's first major hurricane with monstrous 135-mph winds. From its satellite appearance before sunrise this morning on the U.S. East Coast we can see how impressive a storm it has become

TROPICAL STORM EARL

Earl remains a modest tropical storm with 45-mph winds this morning, but that should change during the next couple of days as it finds favorable conditions for strengthening. Earl could become a major hurricane by next week.

TROPICAL STORM FIONA?

OK, so Fiona hasn't formed yet. But the National Hurricane Center gives a vigorous tropical wave off the African coast a 70 percent chance of becoming a depression or tropical storm during the next two days. The intensity models all support this system becoming a hurricane during the next week.

Tropics active as Danielle weakens, Earl looms and Fiona's in the making
The tropics remain dynamic this weekend, and we can't rule out threats to the U.S. East Coast during the next week, so let's get to it.

HURRICANE DANIELLE

Danielle has weakened to 105 mph this evening and, according to a report, has bypassed Bermuda without doing much harm.

TROPICAL STORM EARL

Earl has battled through some wind shear today, strengthening to 55 mph in sustained winds. With relaxing wind shear and very warm water in Earl's path the storm should strengthen considerably during the next few days. The National Hurricane Center's official forecast strengthens Earl into a category 3 major hurricane by Tuesday.

TROPICAL STORM FIONA?

Still no Fiona yet, although this low pressure system some 400 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde islands is still expected to become a tropical depression within the next day or so.
