When I was 14 1/2 an African American lady came here and was working in the local movie rental place she was squealing about how HOT Australia was I was rugged up because it was in the middle of Autumn (You Americans call it fall) I told her that and you should of seen the look on her face I told her during summer the sun hits you and it feels like a kettle full of boiling water was being poured down you back and It was true the look on her face was :huh :awe

:roflmao :crylaugh :whistle :slap

Aussie (pronounced ozzy) heat waves are OFF THE CHARTS!

In Victoria's summer months, the signs of sunburn can start to appear in less than 11 minutes and, depending on the severity, can take days or weeks to heal.

Use a combination of the five sun protection measures described below to reduce your sunburn risk. These measures include:
Slip – on sun-protective clothing (make sure it covers as much skin as possible)
Slop – on SPF (sun protection factor) 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen. Apply 20 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours
Slap – on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears
Seek – shade
Slide – on sunglasses (make sure they meet Australian Standard AS1067).

Note in Sydney in summer the signs of sunburn can start to appear in less than 4 minutes.

:clap freak!

We are beginning to see sun protective clothing locally. I bought some last year online for our anniversary cruise for me.

Worked like a charm!

I also routinely use a sun screen on my face, arms and hands because I have had two bouts with skin cancer.

A hat is a must for me now and I'm not talking about a baseball cap or tennis visor. I mean one with a huge brim - big enough to shade your face, ears and back of your neck!

I need to get one of those for my husband. Thanks, freak! :heart

Here's mine:

I also have a big white one and a big black one. They all have large brims but I wear the one above the most (it's in the natural color).
