What Is a Ha Ha? (serious topic) Plus Autumnal Photos
Has anyone ever heard of a Ha Ha?
Image

As the image suggests, a Ha Ha could be thought of as being a type of fence that is only visible when you are close to it.

clicking the first image (only) will show it full size, so that the writing can be read. So much easier than having to type it out myself!

My local park has two sections of Ha Ha. This view shows the same section as seen in the image above.

btw, look who was hiding amongst the fallen leaves.

As the information board says, the other section of Ha Ha is near the Ceder Tree. This is seen here. The Ha Ha is behind me.

However, the next four images show the Ha Ha in detail.

Note the lack of fence / protective barrier.

The bridge acts as a useful reference point, especially for the last image in which all you can see are the handrails.

Whilst in the park I took a few other photos...

The next two show the walled garden. The plant beds are edged with box hedges which give off a distinctive aroma. In the middle is a circle with a magnificent old English rose at its centre and park bench type seats at each quarter point.

When first built this sheltered planting area was not just for enjoyment. It also housed the kitchen garden where much food was grown for consumption in the manor house. The walls helped protect the plants from strong winds and to create a micro-climate which extended the growing season.

The magnificent old English rose, the white 'spots' are flowers!

The above two views were taken in December, below are some October views of some of the plants in one of the flowerbeds showing delightful autumnal colour.

Also in the park...

Autumnal colour in December!

Just to the left of here there used to be another tree which had leaves that displayed brilliant autumnal colours. Alas in October 2013 it was blown down in severe gales.

Pigeons and some of the waterfowl which live in the lake

Trees in winter guise, plus (courtesy of my camera's lens) some red and blue light refractions

All images late October and early December 2014.
