33 other Mexicans die from influenza A (H1N1)

Mexico, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) The influenza A (H1N1) caused another 33 deaths in Mexico in just two days for a national balance of 573 deaths from the disease turned into a pandemic, today reported the Ministry of Health.

According to the electronic newsletter of the Ministry, through Friday, 64 thousand 322 were confirmed by viral infections, including 573 deaths.

The paper "Current Status of the epidemic" also states that the areas most affected by the virus A (H1N1) remain the Federal District, Mexico State, San Luis Potosi and Chiapas.

According to official statistics, 70.2 percent of the fatalities were aged between 20 and 54, of which 51 percent were men.

Internationally, this type of human influenza also causes serious damage, according to endorse the World Health Organization (WHO) notes with concern the changes suffered recently by the A (H1N1).

WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said that changes in the virus have been detected in countries like Mexico, Brazil, China, Japan, Ukraine and USA.

Last May, the Center for Epidemiological Control (CEC) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that the A (H1N1) was mutated in Mexico in places like Durango, but the amendment evidenced more virulent behavior to keep similar to those recorded at the beginning of the epidemic.

Currently, the WHO recorded 526 thousand 060 patients for laboratory-confirmed influenza A (H1N1) in 206 countries, including at least six thousand 770 deaths.

We know that figures given out by countries and by WHO are only representations of a trend and not accurate numbers; they can't be. Using these numbers, understanding their limitations, gives us a CFR in Mexico of .89% and world-wide of 1.28%.

UK: Up to a third of children in some areas have been infected
Via the BBC, Fergus Walsh writes: Fergus On Flu: Up to a third of children in some areas have been infected. Excerpt:

It's been one of the big questions of this pandemic. Just how many of us in Britain have actually had swine flu?

Knowing that would be incredibly useful, as the bigger the proportion infected, the further we are into this pandemic and the less likely there will be a further sting in its tail.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has done blood tests of hundreds of children and parents connected to early school outbreaks.

With one school in south west England they tested around 500 people. They found that although around one in 10 children fell ill, three to five times as many got infected and developed antibodies.

After analysing this and other data relating to the number of children being seen by GPs, the HPA has now come up with these interesting estimates:

• Up to one third of children in swine flu hotspots (such as England and the West Midlands) have already been infected with the H1N1 virus.

• Across the UK up to one in five children has had had swine flu.

• About half of those who get infected show no symptoms.

And if we only knew what spares some people from even showing symptoms, we would know a very great deal indeed.
