cbnews@caribbeanbusinesspr.com Health Secretary Lorenzo González said Friday that 60 new cases of the AH1N1 swine flu virus were registered during the week of Dec. 29-Jan. 5, bringing the total number of cases to 1,255 since the outbreak reached the island last spring.
The local death toll from the AH1N1 virus stood at 54, according to the Health Department.
The agency is pushing ahead with its inoculation drive, which included the vaccination of more than 350 people during La Fortaleza’s traditional Three King’s Day toy giveaway Wednesday at Luis Muñoz Rivera Park in Puerta de Tierra.
“We vaccinated 356 people without any reaction to the vaccine reported, which is consistent with our past projections in the sense that more than 250,000 island residents have been vaccinated and all has turned out well as we expected,” González said.
González again urged people to set aside their misgivings and get the vaccine.
“Keep in mind that during the Christmas holidays many people, including children, adults and the elderly, may have been exposed to the AH1N1 virus. So the numbers may go up from what we have seen in recent weeks,” the Health Department chief said.
