Thanks for all the research, L. I have been hearing and reading a lot about a coming "mini" ice age too. Of course the whole fiasco of global warming is still being pushed, as if there were a shred of truth in it. Funny, no one mentions all the falsified data revealed in leaked emails among scientists! That got swept under the rug quickly. Time for a good old-fashioned spring cleaning - shake those rugs and see what comes out!

The last time the sun was this quiet, North America and Europe suffered through a weather event from the 1600s to the 1800s known as "Little Ice Age," when the Thames River in London regularly froze solid, and North America saw terrible winters. Crops failed and people starved.

forgotten in all the effort to save the world from warming is the effect on the world's poor. Cheap electricity from coal could be a savior for the world's poor.

But the world's wealthy nations don't want them to have it, all in the name of saving the planet from a crisis that mounting evidence suggests is non-existent.

I have found many scientific articles stating the same evidence that we are heading toward another mini ice age, as was seen 2 to 4 hundred years ago.

Danish solar physicist Henrik Svensmark on the subject of the UN IPCC '…(UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change): many of the climate models used by IPCC and others overestimate the influence of CO2 and underestimate the influence of the sun. … The IPCC is very one-sided, so I don’t think there will be anything reasonable in the next report.'

BBC – Real risk of a Maunder minimum ‘Little Ice Age’

There is more here about the period in the 1600's known as the Little Ice Age, which has been noted in the previous post, but there are more details to add from this article.

The exceptionally inactive sun (during that time) was called the Maunder solar minimum.

... the current rate of decline in solar activity is such that there’s a real risk of seeing a return of such conditions. By looking back at certain isotopes in ice cores, (you) can determine how active the sun has been over thousands of years.

.... solar activity is now falling more rapidly than at any time in the last 10,000 years.

Based on his (Professor Lockwood of Reading University) findings he’s raised the risk of a new Maunder minimum from less than 10% just a few years ago to 25-30%.

And a repeat of the Dalton solar minimum which occurred in the early 1800s, which also had its fair share of cold winters and poor summers, is, according to him, ‘more likely than not’ to happen.

He believes that we are already beginning to see a change in our climate – witness the colder winters and poor summers of recent years – and that over the next few decades there could be a slide to a new Maunder minimum.... not every winter would be severe; nor would every summer be poor. But harsh winters and unsettled summers would become more frequent.

It is, for our home planet, an extremely warm year.


Indeed, last week we learned from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that the first eight months of 2015 were the hottest such stretch yet recorded for the globe’s surface land and oceans, based on temperature records going to 1880. It’s just the latest evidence that we are, indeed, on course for a record-breaking warm year in 2015.

Yet, if you look closely, there’s one part of the planet that is bucking the trend. In the North Atlantic Ocean south of Greenland and Iceland, the ocean surface has seen very cold temperatures for the past eight months. What’s up with that?

At this point, it’s time to ask what the heck is going on here. And while there may not yet be any scientific consensus on the matter, at least some scientists suspect that the cooling seen in these maps is no fluke but, rather, part of a process that has been long feared by climate researchers — the slowing of Atlantic Ocean circulation.
