Post Now, lettuce recalled for listeria fears
SALINAS, Calif. — A California farm said Thursday it was voluntarily recalling bags of chopped romaine lettuce because of possible contamination with listeria, though no illnesses have been reported.

True Leaf Farms of Salinas announced the recall of 90 cartons that were shipped to an Oregon food service distributor. From the distributor, it might have gone to at least two other states, Washington and Idaho.

About the farm and the town:

Quote:
The FDA is looking at the farm's water supply, and the possibility that Listeria-carrying animals wandered onto the farms, as potential causes for the outbreak, Sherri McGarry, a senior adviser for the agency, said.

Listeria bacteria grow in muddy, moist conditions and are often carried by animals. The water supply for farms in the region comes from wells and irrigation ditches that tap the Arkansas River (easy to contaminate :hmm )

The farm is Jensen Farms at 28948 COUNTY RD 30 5, Holly, Co.

Adjacent to Jensen Farms is Thompson Farms at 30500 County Road 30 in Holly, a livestock dealer. The fields and pastures share boundaries. (Google Earth) How hard is it to check out the livestock for listeria?
