Arsenic levels in some apple, grape juices may be high, report finds

Arsenic levels in some commercial fruit juices may be higher than expected, finds a study from Consumer Reports.

The discovery comes just months after television host Dr. Mehmet Oz proclaimed results from his own investigation showed that arsenic levels in apple juice were unhealthful.

snip

The Consumer Reports study tested 88 samples from 28 apple and three grape juices ... About 10% of the samples (five apple juice and four grape juice samples) had total arsenic levels higher than the 10 ppb standard for water.

FDA finally admits chicken meat contains cancer-causing arsenic (but keep eating it, yo!)

After years of sweeping the issue under the rug and hoping no one would notice, the FDA has now finally admitted that chicken meat sold in the USA contains arsenic, a cancer-causing toxic chemical that's fatal in high doses. But the real story is where this arsenic comes from: It's added to the chicken feed on purpose!

Even worse, the FDA says its own research shows that the arsenic added to the chicken feed ends up in the chicken meat where it is consumed by humans. So for the last sixty years, American consumers who eat conventional chicken have been swallowing arsenic, a known cancer-causing chemical.

snip

the manufacturer of the chicken feed product known as Roxarsone has decided to pull the product off the shelves (http://www.grist.org/food-safety/20...). And what's the name of this manufacturer that has been putting arsenic in the chicken feed for all these years? Pfizer, of course -- the very same company that makes vaccines containing chemical adjuvants that are injected into children.

snip

Chicken litter containing arsenic is fed to cows in factory beef operations. So the arsenic that's pooped out by the chickens gets consumed and concentrated in the tissues of cows, which is then ground into hamburger

Great catch, Ruts. Just to add a bit to the discussion, see below.

I've long, long said that the increased cancer in our "modern society" comes from FOOD! GAH!

snip

The arsenic in apple juice is thought to come from arsenic-containing pesticides still in use in countries such as China, but how did arsenic get into the chicken?

The poultry industry fed it to them.

Every year about two million pounds of arsenic-containing chemicals have been fed to chickens in the United States. Why would the industry do such a thing? When tens of thousands of birds are crammed into filthy, football field-sized sheds to lie beak-to-beak in their own waste they can become so heavily infested with internal parasites that adding arsenic to the feed to poison the bugs can result in a dramatic increase in growth rates. Also, arsenic can give the carcass a pinkish tinge, which consumers prefer. :censor :censor :censor

Though arsenic-based feed additives have been banned in Europe for over a decade, they continue to be legal in the United States. One drug company did announce this summer, though, that it has suspended sales to poultry companies after the FDA found concerning levels of a particularly toxic form of arsenic in edible tissues of chickens given feed laced with the arsenic-containing drug.

Based on the USDA estimates of arsenic levels in the U.S. chicken supply, the prestigious Medical Letter on the Centers for Disease Control and the Food and Drug Administration concluded, “Chicken consumption may contribute significant amounts of arsenic to total arsenic exposure of the U.S. population….Levels of arsenic in chicken are so high that other sources may have to be monitored carefully to prevent undue toxic exposure among the population.”

Right on Blue - it indeed does!

Children's medicines coated with brain-damaging aluminum

(NaturalNews) Aluminum Lake food coloring, used to heavily coat liquid medicines for children, contains dangerous amounts of aluminum and harmful synthetic petrochemicals. These "petrochemicals" are carcinogens containing petroleum, antifreeze and ammonia, which cause a long list of adverse reactions. Aluminum poisoning can lead to short and long term central nervous system (CNS) damage, such as memory impairments, autism, epilepsy, mental retardation, and dementia.

snip

Also known as tartrazine, FD&C Yellow Aluminum Lake is a chemical concoction derived from coal tar. It is known to be a reproductive toxin. All artificial colors contain Aluminum Lake, so when your child gets to pick between red, blue or green medicine, they're really choosing which poison they get to consume. Several chemically enhanced food colorings contain ammonia and therefore produce compounds proven to cause various cancers in animal studies, according to CSPI, the Center for Science in the Public Interest.

snip

The following is taken directly from FDA's Regulatory Process and Historical Perspectives: "Color additives are important components of many products, making them attractive, appealing, appetizing, and informative. Added color serves as a kind of code that allows us to identify products on sight, like candy flavors and medicine dosages." Really?! Decoding medicine dosages on sight?

Here are some popular product and "brand" names you may mistake as exempt products: RD&C dyes and colors in baked goods, beverages, candy, cereal, drugs, pet food, personal care products, cosmetics, cough syrups, NyQuil,Tylenol, Robitussin,Jello, gelatins, Cheetos, Skittles, Fruity Pebbles, Marachino cherries, sausage, Mountain Dew, Doritos, chewing gum, and powdered drink mixes.

American companies doing business in Europe currently have to change their products to natural colorings to meet European Union strict regulations. The FDA's rationale is that because artificial food colorings are used mainly in foods and medicines of low or no nutritional value, that the American public should "already be aware" of health implications, so it doesn't matter if other toxins are added.

What are your options as opposed to poisonous medicines? Consult a naturopath (ND) for advice on ingredients in food and medicine.

Tartrazine is sold as a "SPICE" by some food companies. And to imagine I used to have it on my spice rack, believing that the spice suppliers sold something that was useful to add to food! :gah

The aluminium additive is everywhere! One place to be very careful is underarm or deodorants. Aluminium is the ingredient that "deals" with the nasties that cause the smelliness in perspiration. I believe this could be the silver bullet that adds to the onset of breast cancer for woman.

All things nice......

cross-posted to keep everything in one place:

Harvard study: Pasteurized milk from industrial dairies linked to cancer

excerpts

a new study out of Harvard University showing that pasteurized milk product from factory farms is linked to causing hormone-dependent cancers. It turns out that the concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO) model of raising cows on factory farms churns out milk with dangerously high levels of estrone sulfate, an estrogen compound linked to testicular, prostate, and breast cancers.

Dr. Ganmaa Davaasambuu, Ph.D., and her colleagues specifically identified "milk from modern dairy farms" as the culprit, referring to large-scale confinement operations where cows are milked 300 days of the year, including while they are pregnant. Compared to raw milk from her native Mongolia, which is extracted only during the first six months after cows have already given birth, pasteurized factory milk was found to contain up to 33 times more estrone sulfate.

THe article goes on to say that what the cows are fed, when they are milked, and how long and how often they are milked has everything to do with the quality and safety of the milk itself. Read it all at the above link.

Monsanto's Bt GMO corn to be sold at Wal-Mart with no indication it is genetically modified

(NaturalNews) Most of the genetically-modified (GM) corn products forced on American consumers today are hidden in processed foods in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), corn oil, corn starch, and various other corn-based additives. But soon to be available at a Walmart near you is Monsanto's Bt sweet corn, the agri-giant's first ever GM corn product made available to consumers as whole ears right on the cob in the produce section-- and like with all other GMOs, neither Walmart nor Monsanto has any intention of labeling this new "Frankencorn."

Corn and Soy are the most widely distributed form of GM staple in the world today.

We have a situation is ZA that has links to maize and cancer. As it is the highest food stuff consumed locally - it begs a very interesting statistic to keep an eye on for the near future....

We have started growing heritage maize from seed collected from way back, just as a family crop. Only problem is we get to harvest little as the local monkeys keep snapping it all up!!

Iowa passes outrageous law demanding total secrecy over factory meat filth and cruelty practices

Capturing undercover footage of extreme animal abuse at factory farms is soon to be illegal in Iowa, thanks to the passage of a new bill that squelches First Amendment protections for agricultural whistleblowers. In one of the fastest legislative rush-throughs in history, the "American Heartland" state's House and Senate recently passed House File 589, also known as the "ag-gag" bill, which redefines undercover filming and various other whistle-blowing activities as "agricultural production facility fraud" punishable under the law.
snip

Once signed into law .... H.F. 589 will make Iowa the first state in America to actively muzzle individuals from exposing the ugly truth about what takes place at chicken farms, animal processing plants, and even behemoth genetically-modified (GM) crops farms across the state.

snip

Undercover investigations, of course, were responsible for shutting down Hallmark and Westland, a California-based meat packing facility where extreme and highly-disturbing animal abuse was taking place on a regular basis. The company, which was eventually shut down thanks to undercover video footage captured by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), had been supplying tainted meat to public school lunchrooms across the U.S.
