Re: Dangers of preservatives
THIMEROSAL - better known as mercury, present still in some vaccines, controversy exists over the toxic effects of thimerosal in causing autism and other damage to children.
Quote:
Thiomersal is very toxic by inhalation, ingestion, and in contact with skin (EC hazard symbol T+), with a danger of cumulative effects. It is also very toxic to aquatic organisms and may cause long-term adverse effects in aquatic environments (EC hazard symbol N).[9] In the body, it is metabolized or degraded to ethylmercury (C2H5Hg+) and thiosalicylate.[3]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThiomersalWe know what mercury is and how poisonous it is, but I wasn't sure what thiosalicylate was, except that it sounded like a relative of aspirin. Here's some info on it:
Thiosalicylate is an NSAID. (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug)
Side EffectsNausea/vomiting, dyspepsia, heartburn, hives, rash, angioedema, anaphylactic reactions, bronchospasm, rhinitis, prolonged bleeding time, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, platelet dysfunction.,
Salicylates (Includes Sodium thiosalicylate) ↔ Reye's Syndrome
Severe Potential Hazard, High plausibility
Applies to: Influenza, Varicella-Zoster
The use of salicylates, primarily aspirin, in children with varicella infections or influenza-like illnesses has been associated with an increased risk of Reye's syndrome.
So if I understand this correctly, sodium thiosalicylate, one of the components of thimerosal, is being given to children via their vaccinations, yet parents are warned quite seriously not to give their children aspirin (salicylate) for fear of Reye's syndrome.... Quote:
Thimerosal remains in several vaccines and with the addition of the influenza vaccine now being recommended for infants, children are exposed to more thimerosal today than ever before.
