Post So What Can We Do?
A nice little quote I saw today ....

So What Can We Do?

Learn that when you see the words low fat, fat free, or no added sugar, they each really mean “chemical shit storm.”

:spit :slap :roflmao

Oh my word! Sky - that is soooo true!

East Texas and I have recently made some radical changes to our diet. We call it (drum roll, puhlease)

The One Ingredient Diet

Yep. If it has more than one ingredient - we don't eat it.

And, BTW, just found out today (via TV's Dr. Oz) that skim milk (AKA Fat Free Milk) is no better for you than drinking a full fledged Coke. "When they remove the fat - what is left? Sugar!"

Sooo we are doing a modified Atkins - high protein/low carb.

Please before you flame me note that I said modified.

No we are not eating tons of bacon, rib eye steaks and prime rib. We limit our protein to 4 to 6 oz per meal and we choose low fat versions of beef, chicken pork and fish.

No we are not frying chicken rubbed in pork rinds in coconut oil. :awe

We eat tons of vegetables and salads. :heart

East Texas has lost 6 pounds so far. I'm bouncing all over the place - up one week and down the next. Sigh! But I have not smoked in 3 weeks and I have NOT gained any weight! :brockoli :banana :elephant

Most folks who stop smoking gain 8 to 10 pounds in the first month so I'll take no weight gain! :yamon

P.S. - I feel better, too. Not so much snacking between meals, either! :whistle

Good for both of you! Stopping smoking is the one best thing you are doing for yourself at the moment so don't let up and down weight interfere with that. You are always thinking about healthy eating; I've seen it over the years, so just hang in there. :clap

:tounge Blue - tis good to hear that you and DH are maKing such good progress.

We all have to deal with habits we acquired over years of training - so the progress forward can be slow also. Like Ruts says, very good on you for making the decision!

There is one rule in my life I "try" and watch - Carbs = Fat around the waste... :embarressed

And I do Soooo love my bread (the one I bake myself!!) ;)

You and me both, Sky. Hot bread (well, any bread actually) is my total nemesis.

I come from a bread eating family and so does East Texas. It is hard with no bread. :(

My latest cholesterol screening was a wake up call for us on the carbs. I never realized how many I was eating until those results came back.

For poor East Texas, though, it is rice. Da boy loves rice as only a native from Louisiana could! :crylaugh

those pesky Borrowers ;) I eat my chocolate like Nibble, nibble, nibble then Nibble, nibble, nibble then all of a sudden it's gone and I think I didn't eat that much where did it go? it's like yogi bear strikes again? or was it mister "WhoDunit" again. :huh

I swear chocolate is attracted to kids noses and mouths they are like little sniffer dogs for sweet food like chocolate. I mean no matter where you hide it within 20 seconds they've sniffed it out and swallowed it whole and there is chocolate all over there faces no matter how many times you say "did you eat my midnight snacks?"
they say "No" :whistle even though it's plastered all over there faces in the Mouth and nose area.
