Angelina Jolie Surgically Removes Breasts to ‘Prevent Cancer’

Actress Angelina Jolie is the latest to surgically remove her breasts and partake in a concerning new trend that encourages healthy women to remove their body parts in order to ‘prevent cancer’.

I’ve talked about this trend in the past, with cancer-free Sharon Osbourne and even a Miss America contender deciding to remove their breasts because they carry a mutation of the BRCA1 gene. In fact, some doctors have gone much farther than just encouraging breast removal for those with ‘at risk’ genes. As I discussed back in 2012, some doctors are now making blanket recommendations to remove your limbs in order to ‘prevent’ cancer.

Paying no mind to nutrition or lifestyle, these doctors (who medical professionals I speak to all believe are truly off their rocker) are advocating self-mutilation in the highest degree and advocating it as something courageous. The simple reality is that we know we can alter our health through nutritional and lifestyle changes that directly impact the development of cancer and our overall immunity.

Angelina Jolie has a genetic mutation that no amount of nutrition will ever cure or fix.

Her mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 which is exactly why she decided to be tested for the BRAC-1/2 genetic mutation.

Her breast cancer risk was 87%.

She must still deal with her 50%+ risk for ovarian cancer. This will entail removal of her ovaries and, possibly, her uterus.

The only dietary intervention that is generally accepted as preventing breast cancer in BRCA mutation carriers is minimizing consumption of alcoholic beverages.

The article above seems to be addressing normal breast cancer risk. The nutritional advice is sound for women without the BRAC-1/2 genetic mutation.

This sounds radical (removing one's breast tissue when no disease is apparent) and it is. It is a radical way to save one's life due to the genetic mutation.

Many, many times breast cancer is found in the removed tissue during pathological examination post-surgery. Cancer that was never detected by mammography and other tests.

One of the interesting evolutionary traits for the BRAC mutation is a higher fertility rate among women with the mutation even though they do not live as long as women without the mutation.

Interestingly enough, Ashkenazi Jews have the highest incidence of this mutation - about 1 in 40.

Angelina Jolie's father is a practicing Jew, however, her mother was not.

Given the high risk she faced for both breast and ovarian cancer, it could very well be that both her parents carried the BRAC mutation.

How very sad, indeed. :candle
