Swine Flu kills nine more in Canada http://www.vancouverite.com/2009/12/30/ ... in-canada/ OTTAWA – Nine more Canadians have died from Swine Flu in the one week period leading up to December 30, to take the national death toll to 410.
Four people died in Alberta, B.C. reported one death, Ontario had three more deaths while New Brunswick had one. Ontario’s death toll from the H1N1 virus now stands at 121, Quebec 106, Alberta 69 and B.C. reports 53 dead.
Seven new hospitalizations were reported in B.C. during the past seven days. Since April – but mostly in the past two months - 1,044 people have been admitted to B.C. hospitals suffering from severe Swine Flu symptoms.
The latest available FluWatch report by the federal government, accurate to Dec. 12, show that nationwide, 8,261 were hospitalized. 1,372 (16.6%) of those were cases admitted to ICU and 606 (7.3%) cases required life support.
Low levels of flu are expected to continue and people are being encouraged to get vaccinated to avoid falling sick during a predicted third wave of Swine Flu. Further, unlike seasonal flu, Swine Flu is expected to be a threat for years to come.
