WikiLeaks
First WikiLeaks spilled the guts of government. Next up: The private sector, starting with one major American bank. Please, please, please let it be Goldman Sucks! In an exclusive interview earlier this month, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange told Forbes that his whistleblower site will release tens of thousands of documents from a major U.S. financial firm in early 2011. Assange wouldn’t say exactly what date, what bank, or what documents, but he compared the coming release to the emails that emerged in the Enron trial, a comprehensive look at a corporation’s bad behavior. “It will give a true and representative insight into how banks behave at the executive level in a way that will stimulate investigations and reforms, I presume,” he told me. Re: WikiLeaks Will Unveil Major Bank Scandal
Darn! Looks like Bank of America! From Raw Story: In an interview published Monday, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange revealed that his whistleblower website intends to publish a trove of secret documents exposing the corruption of a major American bank. He declined to say which bank, but he offered what may be a telling hint last year as to who the megaleak will target. "At the moment, for example, we are sitting on 5GB from Bank of America, one of the executive's hard drives," Assange told the technology site Computer World in an article published on October 9, 2009. The Wikileaks chief continued: "Now how do we present that? It's a difficult problem. We could just dump it all into one giant Zip file, but we know for a fact that has limited impact. To have impact, it needs to be easy for people to dive in and search it and get something out of it." http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/11/flashback-wikileaks-chief-5gb-dirt-bank-america/

I think we are on the brink of major disclosures in many areas. Thanks for the heads up BB. I suspect that one disclosure of say BOA will lead to others. BTW, did you notice what time you posted the OP? Warning - Dangert Will Robison.

Re: WikiLeaks Will Unveil Major Bank Scandal
Nope didn't even notice! I agree, Rutsie, I think a whole lotta rotten chickens are coming home to roost. I say good on WikiLeaks for doing this. All the right wingers are up in arms calling them traitors (seriously?) and whatevah! Nah! They aren't traitors, IMHO, they are doing what MSM shoulda/coulda/woulda done if they were not bought off by TPTB. Maybe this whole mess is what the Zetas and the Mayans were talking about? True Enlightment! What a novel concept! WikiLeaks reveals more than just government secrets http://www.salon.com/news/wikileaks/index.html?story=/opinion/greenwald/2010/11/30/wikileaksBY GLENN GREENWALD The WikiLeaks disclosure has revealed not only numerous government secrets, but also the driving mentality of major factions in our political and media class. Simply put, there are few countries in the world with citizenries and especially media outlets more devoted to serving, protecting and venerating government authorities than the U.S. Indeed, I don't quite recall any entity producing as much bipartisan contempt across the American political spectrum as WikiLeaks has: as usual, for authoritarian minds, those who expose secrets are far more hated than those in power who commit heinous acts using secrecy as their principal weapon. First we have the group demanding that Julian Assange be murdered without any charges, trial or due process. There was Sarah Palin on on Twitter illiterately accusing WikiLeaks -- a stateless group run by an Australian citizen -- of "treason"; she thereafter took to her Facebook page to object that Julian Assange was "not pursued with the same urgency we pursue al Qaeda and Taliban leaders" (she also lied by stating that he has "blood on his hands": a claim which even the Pentagon admits is untrue). Townhall's John Hawkins has a column this morning entitled "5 Reasons The CIA Should Have Already Killed Julian Assange." That Assange should be treated as a "traitor" and murdered with no due process has been strongly suggested if not outright urged by the likes of Marc Theissen, Seth Lipsky (with Jeffrey Goldberg posting Lipsky's column and also illiterately accusing Assange of "treason"), Jonah Goldberg, Rep. Pete King, and, today, The Wall Street Journal. - snip - Then we have the Good Citizens who are furious that WikiLeaks has shown them what their Government is doing and, conversely, prevented the Government from keeping things from them. Joshua Foust -- who says "he’s spent the vast majority of his adult life doing defense and intelligence consulting for the U.S. government" -- has a private Twitter feed for various intelligence officials and reporters, behind which he's been bravely railing against WikiLeaks defenders (including me) and hysterically blaming WikiLeaks disclosures for everything from Chinese cyber warfare to the next terrorist attack. Plenty of other people are reciting anti-WikiLeaks condemnations from the same script. - snip - Nonetheless, our government and political culture is so far toward the extreme pole of excessive, improper secrecy that that is clearly the far more significant threat. And few organizations besides WikiLeaks are doing anything to subvert that regime of secrecy, and none is close to its efficacy. It's staggering to watch anyone walk around acting as though the real threat is from excessive disclosures when the impenetrable, always-growing Wall of Secrecy is what has enabled virtually every abuse and transgression of the U.S. government over the last two decades at least. - snip - The central goal of WikiLeaks is to prevent the world's most powerful factions -- including the sprawling, imperial U.S. Government -- from continuing to operate in the dark and without restraints. Most of the institutions which are supposed to perform that function -- beginning with the U.S. Congress and the American media -- not only fail to do so, but are active participants in maintaining the veil of secrecy. WikiLeaks, for whatever its flaws, is one of the very few entities shining a vitally needed light on all of this. It's hardly surprising, then, that those factions -- and their hordes of spokespeople, followers and enablers -- see WikiLeaks as a force for evil. That's evidence of how much good they are doing.MORE

Re: WikiLeaks Will Unveil Major Bank Scandal
Imo Julian Assange should be a hero of the people! It is exactly the MSN pushing views like - Quote: those who expose secrets are far more hated than those in power who commit heinous acts using secrecy as their principal weapon. And Quote: That Assange should be treated as a "traitor" and murdered with no due process has been strongly suggested if not outright urged by the likes of Marc Theissen, Seth Lipsky (with Jeffrey Goldberg posting Lipsky's column and also illiterately accusing Assange of "treason"), Jonah Goldberg, Rep. Pete King, and, today, The Wall Street Journal. And Quote: Townhall's John Hawkins has a column this morning entitled "5 Reasons The CIA Should Have Already Killed Julian Assange. Who do these rotten politicians actually serve - the people? Their salaries are paid by the people, yet they use the MSN to spin death and murder justified to gain more power and wealth! I pray that support groups are established to back Assange up and give him more motivation to spill more stink. He is taking a bloody risk and we should back him to the hilt! If ever he is silenced in whatever way - the people of the world will die another slow death! Thanks for these feeds BB...

If you Google "Founder of WikiLeaks" - you get 29 400 000 hits on the score board!! On its own Google could be classed a supporter of Assange I suppose? They are sure putting him in the lime light. I will personally pray for his safety.

Re: WikiLeaks Will Unveil Major Bank Scandal
Again - money TALKS! Pressure, pressure, pressure! Ecuador alters refuge offer to WikiLeaks founderQUITO, Ecuador – Ecuador appears to be modifying its offer of unconditional residency to the embattled founder of the online whistle-blower WikiLeaks. Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino said in a TV interview Tuesday that the possibility "will have to be studied from the legal and diplomatic perspective." His deputy Kintto Lucas said Monday that Ecuador was open to giving Julian Assange residence "without any kind of trouble and without any kind of conditions." The 39-year-old Australian has incensed Washington and many other governments by releasing hundreds of sensitive diplomatic cables. He had sought residency in Sweden. But a court there has ordered him detained for questioning on sexual assault allegations. Assange denies the allegations. Quoted from Here

Re: WikiLeaks Will Unveil Major Bank Scandal
I totally agree with you, Sky. I think the light of truth should shine brightly on all of this. Some of the US folks are talking about killing the poor man! Treason? Seriously? How can a NON-US citizen commit treason? BLECH! It's not a Democrat/Republican thang either! It's da gubmint run amok! IMHO it is merely a continuation of all the Nixon mess! GAH! I have no doubt that there ARE some secrets the US and other nations need to keep. But ALLLLLLL of this? Really? I cannot WAIT to see the release of the Russian documents! That ought to be hilarious!

Re: WikiLeaks
Interpol puts out alert for WikiLeaks' Assange CNN) -- Interpol has put out an alert for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange at the request of a Swedish court looking into alleged sex crimes from this year, it announced Wednesday. The Stockholm Criminal Court issued an international arrest warrant for Assange two weeks ago on probable cause, saying he is suspected of rape, sexual molestation and illegal use of force in separate incidents in August. Sweden asked Interpol, the international police organization, to post a "Red Notice" after a judge approved a motion to bring him into custody. Assange's London lawyer Mark Stephens blasted the Red Notice as "bizarre," "irregular," and comparable to the tactics of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin's secret police chief. Stephens said Assange has offered to meet voluntarily with the Swedish prosecutor, and that his client is being persecuted, not prosecuted. Assange had prosecutor Marianne Ny's permission to leave the country, Stephens said. "Bizarrely," Stephens said, Ny had "ignored or rejected those offers of voluntary cooperation," and sought an arrest warrant, adding: " This action is all the more peculiar as she has not even issued a formal summons for his interrogation or brought charges against Mr. Assange."Read more here: http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/12/01/sweden.interpol.assange/index.html?hpt=T1

Re: WikiLeaks
Big ole hat tip to AC @ GLP for THIS!
Coincidence? NOT!
I don't believe for a MINUTE this is in response to CONgress. Ya can't tell me it ain't in response to Wikileaks' plan to out a big US bank!Fed to Name Recipients of $3.3 Trillion in Aid During Crisis The Federal Reserve, under orders from Congress, plans today t o identify recipients of $3.3 trillion in emergency aid the central bank provided as it fought the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. The Fed intends to post the data on its website at midday in Washington to comply with a provision in July’s Dodd-Frank law overhauling financial regulation. The information spans six loan programs as well as currency swaps with other central banks, purchases of mortgage-backed securities and the rescues of Bear Stearns Cos. and American International Group Inc. The disclosures may heighten political scrutiny of the central bank already at its most intense in three decades. snip Read more here: http://tinyurl.com/2a6geel

Re: WikiLeaks
Fed discloses banks that used crisis loan programs U.S., European companies were among borrowers from U.S. government WASHINGTON — The Federal Reserve revealed details Wednesday of more than $3 trillion in emergency aid it provided during the financial crisis. It also named the companies that used its emergency loan programs and revealed how much they borrowed. Newly released documents show the companies included Goldman Sachs & Co., Citigroup Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp. and Wells Fargo & Co. They also show that foreign banks such as Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland and Deutche Bank were among the borrowers. The documents are a reminder of how crippled the financial system had become during the crisis and how much it's recovered since. Banks earned $14 billion from July through September this year. The figures provide details on more than $2 trillion the Fed lent through emergency programs from December 2007 to July this year to ease a credit crisis. The lending programs had never been used before and are now defunct. Most of the loans have been repaid, and none are overdue, Fed officials say. Re: WikiLeaks
WikiLeaks cables condemn Russia as 'mafia state' http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/dec/01/wikileaks-cables-russia-mafia-kleptocracyRussia is a corrupt, autocratic kleptocracy centred on the leadership of Vladimir Putin, in which officials, oligarchs and organised crime are bound together to create a "virtual mafia state", according to leaked secret diplomatic cables that provide a damning American assessment of its erstwhile rival superpower. Arms trafficking, money laundering, personal enrichment, protection for gangsters, extortion and kickbacks, suitcases full of money and secret offshore bank accounts in Cyprus: the cables paint a bleak picture of a political system in which bribery alone totals an estimated $300bn a year, and in which it is often hard to distinguish between the activities of the government and organised crime.Among the most striking allegations contained in the cables, which were leaked to the whistleblowers' website WikiLeaks, are: • Russian spies use senior mafia bosses to carry out criminal operations such as arms trafficking. • Law enforcement agencies such as the police, spy agencies and the prosecutor's office operate a de facto protection racket for criminal networks. • Rampant bribery acts like a parallel tax system for the personal enrichment of police, officials and the KGB's successor, the federal security service (FSB). • Investigators looking into Russian mafia links to Spain have compiled a list of Russian prosecutors, military officers and politicians who have dealings with organised crime networks. • Putin is accused of amassing "illicit proceeds" from his time in office, which various sources allege are hidden overseas. The allegations come hours before Putin was due to address Fifa's executive committee in Zurich in support of Russia's bid to host the 2018 World Cup. Putin last night abruptly cancelled his trip, complaining of a smear campaign to "discredit" Fifa members. In an angry interview with CNN's Larry King Live, recorded before the latest disclosures, Putin also denounced the cables and warned the US not to stick its nose in Russia's affairs. He made clear he was not amused by a US diplomat's description of him as "Batman" and President Dmitry Medvedev as "Robin". "To be honest with you, we did not suspect that this [criticism] could be made with such arrogance, with such rudeness, and you know, so unethically," Putin remarked. snip

Re: WikiLeaks
I just sent a flaming e-mail to Amazon.
"As a long time loyal Amazon customer, I am appalled that you bowed so quickly to political pressure.
In my humble opinion, Julian Assange and Wikileaks have done the American people and, indeed, the world a major service by bringing these "secrets" to light.
Your appalling actions make me seriously question whether I shall ever do business with you again.
Best Regards..."
Hummphhh - so THERE! WikiLeaks cut off from Amazon servers By the CNN Wire Staff December 1, 2010 4:44 p.m. EST (CNN) -- WikiLeaks has been "ousted" from server space rented from the U.S.-based internet retailer Amazon.com, the website behind a massive disclosure of confidential U.S. documents announced Wednesday. "WikiLeaks servers at Amazon ousted. Free speech the land of the free," the organization, which facilitates the anonymous leaking of secret information, posted on its Twitter page Wednesday evening. "Fine -- our $ are now spent to employ people in Europe." U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee, said Amazon cut off WikiLeaks after inquiries from his aides. In a statement issued by his office, the Connecticut independent called on any other company hosting WikiLeaks to follow suit. "WikiLeaks' illegal, outrageous, and reckless acts have compromised our national security and put lives at risk around the world," he said. "No responsible company -- whether American or foreign -- should assist WikiLeaks in its efforts to disseminate these stolen materials." Re: WikiLeaks
Not one word in American MSM. GAH!WikiLeaks cables: Alexander Litvinenko murder 'probably had Putin's OK' http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/dec/01/wikileaks-cables-alexander-litvinenko-murder?CMP=twt_guVladimir Putin was likely to have known about the operation in London to murder the Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko, Washington's top diplomat in Europe alleged in secret conversations in Paris. Daniel Fried, the assistant secretary of state, questioned whether "rogue elements" in Russia's security services could have carried out the hit without Putin's direct approval. A scenario where the Kremlin was unaware of the Litvinenko plot was far-fetched "given Putin's attention to detail", Fried said. The Russians were behaving with "increasing self-confidence to the point of arrogance", he told the French, arguing for a tougher stance towards Moscow. Fried made his remarks just two weeks after Litvinenko died an agonising death from polonium-210 poisoning in a London hospital. On 7 December 2006 Fried met Maurice Gourdault-Montagne, senior diplomatic adviser to Jacques Chirac, France's president at the time. snip The cables released by WikiLeaks, however, provide further clues that suggest the Russians deliberately obstructed the Litvinenko investigation. A file from the US consulate in Hamburg reports how Dmitry Kovtun left "positive traces" of radioactive polonium-210 in Germany before departing for Britain.Kovtun, a Russian businessman and ex-KGB agent, flew to Hamburg with Aeroflot on 28 October 2006. He flew on 1 November to London. Kovtun met Litvinenko later the same day in London's Millennium Hotel. Also at the meeting was Andrei Lugovoi, another ex-KGB officer accused by Scotland Yard of Litvinenko's murder. Citing German detectives, the cable says Kovtun left a stunning radioactive trail of "polonium contamination" during his four-day stay in Germany. Kovtun deposited polonium in the Hamburg flat of his ex-wife Marina and in several other locations, including his former mother-in-law's house, the cable reports. It cites Gerhard Schindler, Germany's deputy director general for counter-terrorism: "Schindler explained German officials retraced Kovtun's steps to and from his ex-wife's home in Hamburg. Schindler said Kovtun left polonium traces on everything he touched – vehicles, objects, clothes, and furniture."German investigators concluded Kovtun did not have polonium traces on his skin or clothes; Schindler said the polonium was coming out of his body, for example through his pores."

Re: WikiLeaks
This should have been done ages and ages ago. Its high time that leaders learnt to respect the people they are supposed to be serving. As they keep telling us with respect to ID cards, big brother, 24/7 CCTV camera systems, etc... if nothing wrong has been done then no-one should have anything to fear. Simon - happy to let our leaders taste their own medicine and hoping that they will be expected to pay for (purchase) it using their own money too (just like they wanted us to do with ID cards).

The more he is supported, the better our stand against the mongrel politicians! Very interesting to watch the Polls on Time! Julian is creeping up in votes, and has a 86% influence rating. Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the other hand - has had about 10% votes added overnight! Stinky, stinky I think! Has anybody even seen this Turk in the news? Obviously the PTB's New Man in the Euro battle game plan! And Lady Gagga jumped about four places overnight too - in at 3rd now. Shees!
