Post Re: Hurricane Kit/Ride Out Items
Great list, BB, I hear the voice of experience speaking. I'm sure glad I don't live in NY anymore! But we still might get some of the storm up here in NW CT. I am very proud of myself; the only thing I need to get to complete your lists is a couple more cans of gas for the generator and a couple of quarts of motor oil, and fill up the car. Taking care of that tomorrow. Oh yeah, some small bills. It's not a bad idea for everybody to use your list for a short-term emergency, or a start if they haven't really concentrated on prepping for a disaster, even a small or short one. Being prepared isn't being a "conspiracy" head; it's being sensible. There is ALWAYS the possibility no matter where you live that you will find yourself without power for a day or two at the least, and just remember if there is an outage chances are your local stores will be out of power too. No power, no gas, no change from a cash register, no using credit/debit cards, no ATM, no using checks for the most part, no frozen or perishable food, especially dairy. Keep thinking and you'll come up with more things you WON'T have if the power is out. If it's out more than a few days, no water, no freezer or refrigerator food, no cooking unless you have gas, etc. etc. A word to the wise..... ;)

Post away - folks really need this info.

One other item - please make sure you add some ground coffee (or instant) to your preps.

I only had coffee beans after Ike (doh!). A ziploc bag and a hammer worked for me.

:crylaugh :spit
