Powerful quake in NE Myanmar kills more than 70

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) — A powerful earthquake that toppled homes in northeastern Myanmar has killed more than 70 people, and there were fears Friday the toll would mount as conditions in more remote areas became known.

The Thursday night quake, measured at a magnitude 6.8 by the U.S. Geological Survey, was centered just north of the town Tachileik in the mountains along the Thai border. It was felt hundreds of miles (kilometers) away in the Thai capital Bangkok and Vietnamese capital Hanoi.

Myanmar state radio announced Friday that 74 people had been killed and 111 injured in the quake, but was updating the total frequently. It said that 390 houses, 14 Buddhist monasteries and nine government buildings were damaged. :candle

Earthquakes rock Christchurch, New Zealand

CNN) -- A pair of earthquakes with magnitudes of at least 5.0 struck within 90 minutes of each other near Christchurch, New Zealand, on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, reviving vivid memories of a deadly quake that killed more than 180 people in February.

snip

The first quake -- a magnitude 5.2 -- was centered 9 kilometers (5 miles) east-southeast of Christchurch at a depth of 11 kilometers (6.8 miles), according to USGS. The quake took place at 1 p.m. Monday.

A second quake -- a more powerful 6.0 tremor -- struck at 2:20 p.m., roughly 13 kilometers (8 miles) north-northeast of the city at a depth of 9 kilometers (5.6 miles).

Powerful earthquake jolts South Pacific near Vanuatu

A powerful earthquake has been reported off the South Pacific island of Vanuatu at a depth of 41 km (25 miles) with no immediate reports of damage.

The magnitude 7.1 quake occurred at 03:55 local time, 63km (39 miles) south of the capital, Port-Vila, the US Geological Survey said. (It had originally listed the quake as a 7.5)

Interesting quake in VA; discussion of it on the GT. There was also a large EQ in Colorado today.

The largest natural earthquake in Colorado in more than a century struck Monday night in the state’s southeast corner, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

In an unprecedented several hours, an earthquake struck the East Coast, sending tremors from Virginia to Canada, just hours after a separate earthquake rattled Colorado.

There is an interesting discussion on FB concerning the latitude of 37, and the location of the Colorado and VA quakes in relation to the New Madrid:

Just for reference via Google maps**From Trinidad, Colorado to Mineral, Va is 1,639 miles**Obviously half way is 820 miles**From Trinidad, Colorado to New Madrid, MO is 922 miles**From Mineral, VA to New Madrid, MO is 808 miles

Colorado quake was 37.070 N
Virgina quake was 37.936 N
New Madrid is at 36.611 N

Curious anyway

There is also San Fran. Coordinates of Colorado quake and Virginia quake is 37.503N. San Fran is 37.509 right about San Mateo

Now Honshu Japan just had an earthquake. Not at all unusual but its coordinates were 37.124. Something about the latitude 37N going on for some reason

Honshu had a swarm of 5 EQ's yesterday and about as many again over the wknd, plus a 6.3 and two 4.6's on the 19th....altogether 20 EQ's of mag 4.4 or above in Honshu since the 17th, less than a week.

There was also a 4.8 one today, a 4.9 on the 19th and 5.2 on 17th in Afghanistan at 36.475 and a 4.8 one today in Tajikistan at 38.5. It's been a busy week around that latitude.

What is happening around 37.75 N degrees lattitude?

Bearing in mind the previous posts today, about the eruption of Mt. Etna and the earthquake in Spain. We ask ourselves what is happening along the 37.7N latitude, and are these events connected.

Mt. Etna
37.74° N

Spain Earthquakes
37.699 N
and
37.693 N

Is there magma moving from Spain east towards Etna. The Italian earthquake watch continues.

What other locations are around this latitude?

Fukishima (location of the critical Nuclear reactor)
37.75N

Fort Knox
37.8 N

San Francisco
37.75N

New Madrid, MO (epicenter of the 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes isn't too far either)
36.61N

Just a reminder, this year is the 200th anniversary of the New Madrid earthquake with events planned, including a major FEMA exercise next week.

Also the site above mentions those mysterious booms heard in Virginia in May (same latitude) and this

Wednesday, May 11, 2011Edgar Cayce and today's Mt. Etna eruption
There's some news that Mt. Etna in Italy is erupting today (May 11, 2011).

This prediction dated until 1998, but with the flooding of the Midwest, it seems timely.

Edgar Cayce predicted that dramatic physical changes would affect the Earth in the years 1958-1998 and would begin with the eruption of Mt. Etna.

Strifes will arise through the period. Watch for them near the Davis Strait [between Greenland and Canada] in the attempts there for the keeping of the life line to land open. Watch for them in Libya and in Egypt, in Ankara and in Syria, through the straits about those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.

from Dutchinse.com

9/6/2011 — ELEVEN LARGE 6.0 to 7.0 earthquakes the past 2 weeks

The earthquake uptick continues …

EIGHT large (over 6.0) earthquakes in the past 7 days.. and 11 (possibly 12) large earthquakes over the past 14 days.

Several of the quakes were 7.0 and greater !

All around the Pacific ring of fire.. the only area spared was USA. The rest, south america, south west pacific, Asia, and Alaska .. all received 7.0 or greater the past 2 weeks. (the USGS downgraded a few, but the EMSC did not)

I say thirteen large quakes in the video.. however a 7.2 JUST happened in Fiji / Vanuatu region within 1 hour of making this video .. thus making it 14 at LEAST 6.0 earthquakes over the past 14 days!.

In the video he shows how the whole ring of fire is rocking except for the western US and down through central America, then there were a couple of big ones in Peru, Argentina, Chile - he shows them on a map of the globe, for those interested in following such things. Watch out, western US and Mexico!

Magnitude 6.1 quake shakes Indonesian resort island of Bali; dozens injured

BALI, Indonesia — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake jolted Indonesia’s popular resort island of Bali on Thursday, injuring more than 50 people and sending others fleeing from their hotels and houses in panic.

Ceilings caved in at two high schools and several ancient Hindu temples were damaged, with stones tumbling to the ground and walls crumpling.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake was centered 60 miles (100 kilometers) southwest of the island, famous for its resorts and spectacular surfing beaches. It hit 21 miles (35 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor.

Although not strong enough to trigger a tsunami, the quake was felt on neighboring Java and Lombok islands.

Powerful earthquake strikes poor eastern Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey (CNN) -- Turkey was struck by its most powerful earthquake in at least a decade Sunday, as a major tremor and at least seven aftershocks rattled the poor east of the country.

Television pictures from Van Province showed rescuers and members of the public climbing over massive piles of cinderblocks that had been a building before the earthquake hit.

Ambulances and bulldozers were on the scene.

A seven-story building collapsed on Kazim Karabekir Street in the city of Van, and more buildings were reduced to rubble the village of Tabanli in Van Province, the Anatolian news agency said. It was unknown how many people were trapped.

snip

The U.S. Geological Survey initially reported the quake had a magnitude of 7.3, then revised it down to 7.2.

Powerful earthquake strikes poor eastern Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey (CNN) -- As night fell over eastern Turkey on Sunday following the most powerful earthquake in at least a decade, citizens were using flashlights and shovels as they clambered over the rubble of collapsed buildings looking for survivors.

At least seven aftershocks rattled the region, one of the nation's poorest. The extent of casualties was not immediately known.

Some 25 apartment buildings and a student dormitory collapsed in the town of Ercis on the north shore of Lake Van, the Turkish Red Crescent said.

Local rescuers took many wounded people out of the dormitory, the Red Crescent statement said, without saying exactly how many.

A health services building also collapsed, along with part of a hospital, CNN sister network CNN Turk reported. At least two doctors were thought to be in the rubble of the health services building, the network said. The injured were being treated in the hospital's garden.

Official rescue efforts were under way in Ercis, said CNN Turk reporter Sevda Incesu, but residents were also conducting efforts of their own. Ambulances were having trouble getting into town because the roads were littered with rubble, she said.

"Federal government" BUSTED for forcing American nuclear industry to become a ticking time bomb

I can guage how accurate a report is by how much it gets shilled in the blogs, while being defended by intelligent people. This report is getting it a LOT worse than the Fukushima report, which got nailed bad. This one REALLY hit a nerve. This is possibly the biggest scandal in American history, and it may well destroy your future if steps are not taken by the people to force the FED to overturn the mandated lunacy which now stands as a menace to us all.

You have been told the nuclear waste must go somewhere. You have been told it needed to be stored inside a mountain in the desert, where it will sit as a threat and menace to the world for millions of years. You have been told there is nothing we can do about it. But what if you have been told a lie? What if that "spent fuel" was not spent at all? What if a technology existed which allowed the same fuel to be used over and over, twenty times in fact, and expended so fully that fuel rods would be safe enough to handle directly straight out of the reactor? Think any "spent fuel pools" would be full? And even if this never happened,

What if foreign nations, (France was one) offered us hundreds of billions of dollars for our "spent fuel" only to have the U.S. Government refuse the offer for no reason at all? Would that not solve the problem of getting rid of it? And the final question, WHY would the Fed want so much nuclear material sitting around the country, only to become a menace? Could it be that we do not have a government, and instead have a band of usurpers in power who have intentionally set us up for a fall? After reading this report, I believe you will be inclined to think so.

This report consists of hard scientific fact, and even harder answers.

In my journey of discovery in my investigation into the Fukushima disaster, I interviewed an 85 year old nuclear engineer who worked in the nuclear industry during America's glory days, and earned GE over 100 patents. He was one of the engineers who designed Fukushima, so naturally when conducting a real investigation into such a disaster a responsible journalist would want that type of reference. I was surprised when my prior study of the reactor systems there was so thorough that he had no information about Fukushima I did not already dig up, and he was very surprised when I told him details about the inner workings of the reactor he never expected anyone in the media to know.

When I started to think I was going to walk away with nothing, he dropped a bombshell on a totally different subject. He opened his new direction of the discussion with the phrase "My team succeeded in closing the nuclear loop, and Carter banned our miracle with an executive order

Here is what followed that introductory line, and the reason why we need to oust the FED and start over.
The following is what he said in the interview

I started in the American nuclear program all the way back at the time of the Manhattan project, and have been involved in reactor design and nuclear engineering my whole life. There was one answer we all searched for, and it was how to close the nuclear loop.

When a reactor such as a boiling water reactor uses fuel, the waste products, which are highly radioactive isotopes that have a different fission characteristic than the fuel, build up in the fuel and poison the nuclear reaction. A reactor such as a boiling water reactor can only use the fuel until it gets contaminated by these isotopes enough to change the nature of the nuclear reactions taking place. The reaction environment inside a boiling water reactor is only one such environment that will work to trigger a chain reaction, and if that spent fuel is put into a reactor made from different materials, those materials can favor the burning of the poisonous isotopes, and use the isotopes as fuel until the fuel is purified of them, and therefore had it's original radiological characteristics restored. Once that is accomplished, the fuel can go back into the boiling water reactor, and used as new.

We perfected the second reactor design, which used liquid sodium as a coolant, and the reactor ran much hotter - 1100 farenheit as opposed to 550 in a boiling water reactor. The liquid sodium circulated inside the reactor in lieu of water, with the heat of the reaction being removed from the system by a heat exchanger which boiled the water outside the reactor for use in producing electricity. The temperature difference and coolant characteristics facilitated the burning of the isotopes, and you got to use both sides of the reaction - one side produced electricity while poisoning the fuel, and the other side produced electricity while burning the poisons out. This process can be repeated 20 times, and when it is finished the fuel is DEAD and no longer hazardous because all of it's radiological potential has been used up. It was a dream come true, and Carter banned it by executive order!

He specifically stated that the burn down was so complete that the spent fuel was safe to handle directly with bare hands, and needed no special care or maintenance at all.

He then went on to lament about what a waste of money it was, because the fuel is expensive, and they were only using it to about five percent of its total potential. He lamented the fact that his life's greatest accomplishment got banned for no good reason, and it was a tremendous waste of money to not use the technology his team developed. Electricity would have been cheap. REAL CHEAP. So cheap that homes would not have been heated with oil or natural gas, electricity would have been the only sensible choice. Furthermore, with a reduction in the price of electricity by at least 10X, electric cars would have been a no brainer.

This would have been America's free energy future, with the only real cost being maintenance of infrastructure.

His take on it was that we were now paying too much for electricity. I guess that's how an engineer thinks. He had read my article on Fukushima and liked it, so one would guess his eyes were open to the global conspiracy. Even still I think he missed the obvious in what he said.

Here is my take, and it has NOTHING to do with price, preservation of resources, or free energy.

Nuclear reactors are HUGE. They have an enormous amount of nuclear material in them. One boiling water reactor core the size of the ones at Fukushima can easily hold enough fissionable material to make countless atomic bombs. And with the technology that makes re-using that fuel illegal, it builds up at a rate of 25 tons per gigawatt YEAR. This means that even small facilities like Fort Calhoun have approximately a million pounds of highly radioactive "poisoned" fuel sitting in their pools waiting for the right combination of problems to cause a disaster.

When GE and others designed the nuclear facilities both here and abroad, they had calculated that they would indeed succeed in closing the nuclear loop. So they designed the nuclear facilities with approximately a 20X safety margin in the fuel pools, because they did not have a clear date on when the technology would be perfected. It was my impression from this engineer that they got it sooner than expected. So fortunately the fuel pools were over built. But they were never built to withstand the fuel burdens that would result from a political decision to destroy the technology altogether.

So now, 40 years down the road, we have fuel pools around the country that are so full that they have exceeded even the extremely generous safety margins they were originally designed to have, and even modest pools often have over 400 tons of highly active isotope ridden "spent" fuel in them.

Having functional fuel pool cooling systems was never intended to be necessary. GE and others wanted one or two cores worth of fuel sitting in a pool at any one time. This would make it so that even if all cooling failed, there would be no boiling of the water in the pool, no pending disaster possible from equipment failure no matter how severe. But the way it is now, if there is any sort of attack or disaster which prevents fuel pool maintenance at any of the facilities around the country for a period exceeding three days, all hell will break loose and a nuclear disaster of unimaginable magnitude just like Fukushima will take place. And it never needed to be this way, in fact, the situation is criminal.

Upon recognizing the lunacy of America's Federally mandated nuclear sabotage, countries like France and Germany stepped up to the plate offering to buy our 5% spent fuel for billions of dollars. Heck, they were not held political hostage by a hostile government, and could certainly use a "freebie". But instead our government mandated NO transport of the fuel to foreign nations, NO FURTHER USE WHATSOEVER. Use it 5 percent, leaving 95 percent of the radiological hazard remaining, and please let it build up in a pool that needs maintenance. Shills have said it was the import/export restrictions which caused this, but since those are written by the same government that banned the closing of the "nuclear loop", the restrictions are only a further indictment of the FED for causing this problem.

Simultaneous with the intentional building of the threat from having so much nuclear material sitting around came all the government scandals and lies about needing to put the fuel somewhere. Inside a mountain in the desert. Inside a dry cask. Maybe in the ocean, all the while the general american public was kept oblivious to the obvious answer: If we are not allowed to use it because of a nonsensical piece of legislation, why not let someone else have it, when they are willing to EVEN PAY FOR IT?

Here is what I believe is the answer. And this answer needs to be spread far and wide.

Whatever you think of Kennedy, on the day of his death he was our last hope. No one since has been anything other than an enemy infiltrator, The enemy is not only inside the gates, it was getting a paycheck from you 40 years ago.

Consider this. Our government intentionally put in place policies that de-industrialized America. That's an act of war. Our government put in place policies that intentionally destroyed our schools. That's an act of war. And I consider FORCING VIA MANDATE the buildup of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of nuclear warheads worth of perfectly good reactor fuel just waiting for a disaster around the country to be an act of war as well - Only an enemy would intentionally mandate the creation of such a threat, who on earth would, other than someone who hated this country? Not only did we lose a marvelous clean virtually free energy future, that future got converted into a threat that could very easily destroy us. All it would take to kill America, with our nuclear facilities drastically overloaded with spent fuel, is 150 smart bombs. ONE BOMBING RUN AND IT IS OVER.

He also claims that he was held in custody for a period of time.

Update: 28 sep 2011 What happened to Jim Stone?
The following article about what really happened at Fukushima got me into a LOT of trouble. That can only mean I NAILED IT.
After being detained without charges or a phone call for six days, even after repeated requests to be allowed to make a call to let friends and family know where I was, and to be allowed to call 4 radio programs to cancel appearances, I was released without charge within an hour of FINALLY getting a call out in a way they did not plan for. They destroyed my business, destroyed the equipment and inventory, and forced me to flee. I have lost EVERYTHING and that is why I am now silent. Even posting this update is probably a huge risk. I am under severe threat and will not post another article until I am certain I have found safety in a foreign nation. I have been left too devastated to get out of the country and am living on the streets. That's the price you pay for doing real research and getting the real truth out. Journalism, TRUTHFUL ground breaking journalism is DEAD in America.

Contrary to what is stated on Google, this article was NEVER DEBUNKED BY ASIAN WEEK. Asian week has a section where un-verified authors can post anything they want. Someone posted a bogus debunk piece there. That is what Google points to. This article is ROCK SOLID and most likely what put me in jail.

Dec 31 (Reuters) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 struck close to the New Zealand city of Christchurch on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake was measured only about 14 km (9 miles) northeast of the city. It was another in a series of quakes that have rattled the city since a major earthquake killed almost 200 people there 10 months ago.

There were no immediate reports of a tsunami warning.

A quake of a similar magnitude was felt in the area on Dec. 23, sending terrified residents from their houses but causing no casualties or major damage.

Interesting year coming with the Solar maximum due at end 2012....

7.3 magnitude quake hits off Indonesia's Sumatra island

[Updated at 4:27 p.m. Tuesday ET] A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of western Indonesia's Sumatra island early Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, but witnesses reported only minor shaking on land.

The quake, which happened at 12:37 a.m. local time (1:37 p.m. Tuesday ET) at a depth of 18.1 miles, was centered in the Indian Ocean about 262 miles southwest of Banda Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia, and 590 miles west of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the USGS said.

Indonesian authorities issued a tsunami warning for the area, but the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a massive wave like the one that devastated the region in 2004.

There were no immediate reports of damage, and hotel clerks contacted by CNN reported only mild shaking. One front desk clerk in Aceh said a few hotel guests went outside when the quake hit, but most weren't awakened.

Which is a theory that fascinates me personally.... Explains all the cracks and sink holes around the planet lately!

State TV: 96 injured after earthquake hits coastal Peru

Lima, Peru (CNN) -- Civil defense officials reported nearly 100 injuries after a strong earthquake shook coastal Peru early Monday.

The magnitude 6.3 quake hit about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of Ica, at a depth of 39.2 kilometers (24.4 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

At least 96 people were injured in the quake, state-run TV Peru reported, citing civil defense officials. Police were patrolling the area while officials assessed damages, TV Peru said. At least one home was uninhabitable and two others were damaged, the state television station reported.

Hotels in the area reported brief power outages but no damage.

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the same region in October, leveling dozens of buildings and leaving some homeless.

Phew! South of Lima. Still I feel for those in the stricken areas, and I fear for a really big one on the coast in the area of Lima itself, not just for my friends, but the area is so densely populated, and the houses are mostly poorly constructed, more huts than houses. The death toll would be huge.

This pic seems to be a little old; the hills are more populated now.

Typical neighborhood in the shanty towns around Lima.

6.8 quake in Philippines kills 13, buries homes

A strong earthquake in the central Philippines killed at least 13 people Monday as it destroyed buildings and triggered landslides that buried dozens of houses, trapping residents. At least 29 people were missing.

The 6.8-magnitude quake, in a narrow strait just off Negros Island, caused a landslide in Guihulngan, a city of about 180,000 people in Negros Oriental province. As many as 30 houses were buried and at least 29 people were missing, Mayor Ernesto Reyes said.

"Their situation is bad because if you are covered by landslide for one hour, two hours, how can you breathe?" he said. "But we just hope for the best, that there are still survivors."

Rescuers were using picks and shovels to dig for survivors, he said.

from Dutchsinse posted yesterday on FB:

Yesterdays west coast earthquake (off the coast of Vancouver Island BC/Canada) --- plus ANOTHER 6.0M+ earthquake in Vanuatu -- north of New Zealand ... movements from central america south through the tip of Chile.

Asia.. we see Japan, China, Russia (near the border of Russia and China), and the Middle east in a state of flux --- also the rare earthquake out in the indian ocean near the fracture zone...

Watch the west coast USA -- along the edge of the north american craton for further movement...
