The only place we didn't have a storm shelter when I lived in Oklahoma City, OK as a child was the first place we lived.
My Mom, Dad, brother, myself and the dog spent the night in the bath tub with a twin mattress over our heads during one of the worst outbreaks of tornadoes the state of Oklahoma had ever seen.
Come morning, our house and the house across the street were the only homes left standing in a 2 square block area.
After that my Mom was adamant about the shelter. I spend many, many, many a night in one as a child. My brother and I would go to sleep in our beds and wake up in the shelter.
As a result, I have a very healthy regard for storms AND prepping. My Mom kept the shelter fully stocked with water, food, coloring books, colors, games, blankets and all the comforts of home.
Yep - the apple didn't fall far from THAT tree!
