How common will this become?

Megacryometeor: Cannonball-sized chunk of ice crashes into Wisconsin home

A large ball of ice, weighing 12.6 pounds, crashed through the bedroom ceiling. Megacryometeors are very large chunk of ice which despite sharing many textural, hydro-chemical, and isotopic features detected in large hailstones, such giant chunk of ice form under complete different atmospheric conditions.

A ‘cooling’ surprise for people in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh as they are experiencing a strong early heat wave.
The large chunk of ice crashed down near Nousar village in Timarini, 40km from Harda district headquarters. Residents reported hearing a thundering noise just before the icy meteor ‘touched down’. According to witnesses, nearly 14 seconds after the first chunk of ice fell, another smaller chunk crashed in a nearby field.

A megacryometeor is a very large chunk of ice which is formed under unusual atmospheric conditions. They are sometimes called huge hailstones, but do not need to form under thunderstorm conditions. One in Brazil weighed in at more than 50 kilograms (110 lb). The process that creates megacryometeors is not completely understood, mainly with respect to the atmospheric dynamics necessary to produce them. They may have a similar mechanism of formation to that leading to production of hailstones.

Where the process that can form a 100 pound ice ball is not clearly understood by meteorologists, it should be no mystery. Hail formation during thunderstorms occurs because ice forms around a small piece of dust, and then as it drops it accumulates more water drops. Rain has a similar formation, a tiny drop of water merging with others to form splatting rain drops. Megacryometeors require the start of hail formation to be higher in the atmosphere, thus a longer drop with more time for accumulation. Will this be on the increase? With increasing turmoil in the atmosphere – yes.
